INGREDIENT

Folate (Vitamin B9)

An essential vitamin for cell division, blood formation and neurological function.

Folate is a water-soluble B vitamin that plays a central role in cell division and DNA synthesis.
These processes are fundamental to growth, repair and the body’s normal functioning at every stage of life.

The importance of Folate

Folate is required for processes in which cells divide and renew.

The choice for calcium-L-methylfolate reflects how the body uses folate in its functional form and fits within a composition where Vitamin B6 and Vitamin B12 work in targeted synergy.

By combining these vitamins in their functional forms in our AM sprays, the formula aligns with the body’s coordinated biochemical processes.

More about Folate

  • Folate:

    • plays an essential role in DNA synthesis and cell division
    • contributes to the formation of red blood cells
    • supports normal neurological function
    • is important for processes involved in tissue growth and repair

These functions are recognised by EFSA and supported by medical literature.

  • Folate status is strongly influenced by dietary choices and food processing. Folate is sensitive to heat and preparation methods, which can reduce its levels in foods.

Lower intakes are also observed in certain groups, particularly with diets low in green vegetables or high in processed foods.

  • Folate from food must first be converted into its active form in the body before it can perform its functions. The efficiency of this conversion varies from person to person.

    It occurs naturally in:

    • leafy green vegetables
    • legumes
    • whole grains
    • citrus fruits
    • nuts and seeds

Folate levels can vary significantly depending on freshness and preparation.

  • With a varied diet, intake can be sufficient. In practice, this is not always guaranteed, due to:

    • folate losses during cooking
    • low vegetable intake
    • highly processed dietary patterns

This is why consistent folate intake remains important.

  • Folate plays a key role in growth and development, as it is involved in cell division and tissue formation.

Adequate intake supports normal development during the growth phase.

In Belgium, folic acid supplementation is recommended before conception and during pregnancy to support the health, natural growth and development of the baby.

  • Folate is water-soluble, and excess amounts are largely excreted.

With long-term, very high intakes of synthetic folic acid, accumulation may occur. This is less relevant with active folate forms.

A thoughtful and moderate dosage remains advisable.
