Vitamin D3

An essential vitamin for calcium balance, muscle function, and immune support.

Vitamin D3 is a fat-soluble vitamin that acts as a hormone regulator in the body.

It influences how calcium and phosphorus are absorbed and used, playing a fundamental role in bone health, muscle function and the immune system.

The importance of Vitamin D3

Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is the form the body naturally produces under the influence of sunlight.

In the body, vitamin D3 is converted into active metabolites that regulate processes at the cellular level, including calcium absorption and muscle function.

In our PM sprays, we deliberately combine this form of vitamin D3 with Vitamin K2, a physiologically complementary duo that supports each other’s function.

More about Vitamin D3

  • Vitamin D3 plays a role in more than just calcium absorption:

    • supports the strength of bones and teeth
    • contributes to normal muscle function
    • is involved in the functioning of the immune system

These functions are recognised by EFSA and supported by medical literature.

  • In Belgium and the Netherlands, vitamin D production through sunlight is limited and highly seasonal.

Diet alone usually provides insufficient vitamin D3, making it important to pay attention to maintaining adequate levels.

Research shows that in Belgium, 50% to 70% of adults do not reach desired blood levels during winter.

  • Vitamin D3 naturally occurs in:

    • fatty fish (such as salmon, mackerel, and herring)
    • egg yolks
    • meat
    • mushrooms
  • Diet alone typically does not provide sufficient vitamin D3, which makes maintaining adequate levels more challenging.

In Belgium and the Netherlands, vitamin D production from sunlight is limited and seasonal. Especially during autumn and winter, vitamin D status falls below recommended levels for a large part of the population.

  • Vitamin D3 is essential for the development and mineralisation of the skeleton during growth.

Adequate intake supports normal bone development and muscle function in children.

  • Vitamin D3 is fat-soluble and stored in the body. With long-term intake of very high doses, excessive levels may occur.

This is why careful dosing is important, especially with daily use.
