Vitamin K2

An essential vitamin for proper calcium distribution and bone health.

Vitamin K2 is a fat-soluble vitamin that plays a specific role in the regulation of calcium in the body.

It does not determine how much calcium is absorbed, but helps guide where that calcium is used.

FORMULA — PM SPRAY

The importance of Vitamin K2

More about Vitamin K2

  • Vitamin K2:

    • activates proteins involved in calcium distribution
    • contributes to the maintenance of normal bones
    • supports normal blood clotting

These functions are recognised by EFSA and supported by medical literature.

  • Vitamin K2 is mainly found in fermented foods, which are consumed only in limited amounts in Western dietary patterns.

As a result, intake is often low and inconsistent.

In combination with Vitamin D3, Vitamin K2 is therefore receiving increasing attention in the context of bone and skeletal health.

  • Vitamin K2 occurs naturally in specific food categories, including:

    • natto (fermented soybeans)
    • fermented and aged cheeses
    • liver
    • egg yolks
    • meat and dairy (in smaller amounts)

Leafy green vegetables mainly provide vitamin K1, not K2.

  • Research suggests that many people have a subclinical vitamin K2 deficiency, as intake through diet is often insufficient.

Studies indicate that up to one-third of people may have suboptimal intake, which may be associated with vascular calcification, heart valve calcification, and lower bone density.

  • Vitamin K2 is involved in processes that support healthy bone development by helping integrate calcium into the skeleton. This is particularly relevant during growth phases, when bone formation is a priority.

Vitamin K and Vitamin D work in synergy, together contributing to improved bone quality and vascular elasticity.

  • No upper intake level has been established for vitamin K2.

If you are using blood-thinning medication, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional.
